It was lovely to have Artist Katherine Jones teaching at Ochre Print Studio again.
Sugar lift is a way of creating painterly marks on an etching plate using a sugar solution and a paint brush. The areas you paint are a positive mark. It’s a form of etching using aquatint. If used in conjunction with the more technical processes of etching, this method of working on a plate allows you to incorporate fluid marks and textures rather than just those of lines.
Katherine is a fine art printmaker and painter living and working in Brixton South London. She combines traditional forms of intaglio and relief print namely etching, collagraph and block-print to produce her distinctive images.
