Summer School – Batik with Gill Jenkins – 28/29 July (2 days)

Batik is an ancient fabric wax-resist method of dyeing cloth to create patterns and pictures, originating in Java, Indonesia. The patterns are constructed using lines and dots, but can also include large blocks of colour.
Over the two days, Tutor Gill Jenkins will be exploring different ways of applying the wax to the fabric or paper, then dyeing it in stages to create layers of colour, with cold water dyes and natural dyes.

* Despite limited spaces, this in-house beginner’s linocut course is offered at a subsidised price to encouraged people to learn new skills. Numbers are limited to 5 to allow for social distancing within the studio. You will be asked to wear a mask when you are NOT working within your own designated, socially distanced, space.
