Artist and Printmaker Mary Dalton’s course is taking place during on two consecutive weekdays – Monday and Tuesday.
This highly innovative and unusual method of creating a printed ‘image’ allows the student to see their prints in sculptural form.
Mary says: We will be using Plaster of Paris to cast our prints in basic square moulds. The resultant object will not only have an impression of the printed surface, but also of all the undulations, textures and forms that were present in the mould.
We will be using basic intaglio, relief and collagraph techniques as our printed element.
Once the plaster object is dry, we can also use tools to scratch and carve further into the work, allowing the student to see that print does not always have to be on paper.
Due to the nature of the course, we will be working in monochrome.

Artist Mary Dalton trained at the Royal College of Art, graduating with an MFA in Printmaking. She has been teaching since 2008, including running the lithography studio at the famous Curwen. Her work is in the collections of the Imperial War Museum and the Tate Library as well as international museums.
