An Introduction to Photopolymer Etching with Sarah Cliff – This course has been postponed until the Autumn

21st March 2020 @ 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM GMT

£90.00

Photopolymer plates produce finely detailed, tonally rich, etched images from drawings or digital/photographic images.

During this one day workshop you will have the opportunity to expose two A5 images onto photopolymer plates and to make a number of prints from each.

Photopolymer plates are coated with light-sensitive resin. A tonally rich acetate image is placed on the plat, exposed to UV light and developed in water.  Darker areas become etched into the plate.  The plate is then inked up and printed on damp paper using an etching press. The print will produce a range of grey tones and considerable photographic detail.

After proofing, the plate can be further altered using drypoint techniques. There will be time to add colour using different inking techniques. You will also have the opportunity to make a small edition of a plate.

Prior to the workshop, your digital images need to be be printed onto acetate using an inkjet or laser printer and brought with you to the workshop. Printable acetate can be obtained from stationery and craft suppliers such as Hobbycraft. Your images can be printed in full colour or tonal shades of grey. If you have any difficulty producing your printed acetates, please get in touch with Sarah : sarah.cliff@ochreprintstudio.co.uk

Alternatively you can draw onto acetate, or textured polyester drafting film (Mark Resist or True-Grain) using a number of opaque and translucent media such as ink or oil-based crayons. Mark Resist and True-Grain are both available in the studio.
