Photopolymer Etching with Mai Osawa
March 30 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm GMT£150
This weekend course will introduce you to a form of printmaking that is simple, safe, and versatile. Printmaking using Photopolymer Plates or ‘Solarplate’ is a process of exposing light sensitive plates in sunlight or UV light (we have an exposure unit for this), and developing them in water before printing.
The surface of the plate will retain fine detail and good tonal range from both digital or photographic imagery and autographic (hand-drawn) originals. The direct exposure of suitable found materials is also an option that will be explored.
During the two-day workshop you will be shown how to make plates suitable for relief and intaglio printing, plus blind embossing. Bringing pre-prepared artwork with you would be helpful and you will be sent instructions for this before the course begins.
This course is suitable for everyone, from beginners to those with experience of printmaking. All basic materials will be provided, with the option to buy additional Photopolymer Plates and paper from the studio shop at reasonable prices.
