Lithino is lithography on lino. It was first touched upon in the 1970s, but was using harsh chemicals to process the lino. In the last few years, Mary has researched and developed a process that allows the lithographic marks on the lino to be processed and printed without the need of toxic chemicals. Lithino is still being researched and developed by Mary with the support of Essdee, the makers of traditional artists lino.
The process allows the artist to work with the wonderfully expressive lithographic marks in conjunction with the with graphic lino cut. The lino surface is incredibly sensitive to lithographic drawing tools and the results are beautiful. The edition rate of Lithino is similar to Mokulito, ranging from 5 to 15, depending on the plate and marks. It is a wonderful means of encouraging unique, expressive Printmaking.
This Monochrome workshop will teach the basic Lithino process and allow you to produce several prints, each with a litho layer and a lino layer.

Founder of ‘Pop-Up Press’ (taking art and printmaking to the people), Mary Dalton trained at the Royal College of Art, graduating with an MFA in Printmaking. She has been teaching since 2008, including running the lithography studio at the famous Curwen. Her work is in the collections of the Imperial War Museum and the Tate Library as well as international museums. We are delighted to welcome her back to teach with us again!
