Making Hand Made Paper to Print On – A One Day Introductory Workshop with Mandy Brannan and Jane Cradock-Watson – Sunday 9 February

9th February 2025 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM GMT
£90.00

In this one day workshop, learn how to make small individual sheets of handmade papers using a fusion style of Japanese and Western styles of sheet production. You will then use these sheets of paper to print on, in a combined workshop led by Mandy Brannan and Jane Cradock-Watson.

Printing on handmade paper that has the feathery deckle edge and soft surface texture adds an interesting artisanal quality to your prints, an effect not possible with shop bought printing papers.

Archival issues, and recycling techniques will be also be part of the workshop, as will the making of collagraph plates and simple printmaking onto these papers.

The final papers /prints can be used for an edition, or a multiple framed piece.

Morning: Making handmade paper using a variety of traditional papermaking fibres, recycled paper and plant fibres. Drying of papers ready for printmaking.

Afternoon: Using either your own existing printing plates (relief or intaglio), or making your own simple relief prints on the day, experiment with printmaking onto your handmade papers. You can also use them for Chine-collé on your usual and larger printmaking paper. We will be making papers in a variety of small formats, with a maximum size of approximately A5.
