Introduction to Linocut Printing with Susan Yeates
19th September 2018 @ 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM BST£100
This creative printmaking course is split over three Wednesday mornings in September/October and will explore relief printing via linocut onto paper. Relief printing is a process where the surface of the block (eg a sheet of lino) is cut away and only what remains of the original surface will print. Susan will show you some examples of linocut prints and how to prepare an image before cutting the block, the application of ink and, most importantly, make prints!
You will be taught to print using both hand-burnishing and a printing press, allowing you to continue exploring the possibilities of relief printmaking from home or in the studio after the course. Each technique will be clearly explained and demonstrated with plenty of time to experiment yourself. We recommend that you bring along some ideas or a sketchbook to work with on the first session. Each session will work on a separate project and print to develop your linocutting technique, become confident with handling the tools and work on your image interpretation skills.
Susan Yeates is a printmaking tutor at Magenta Sky and author of Learning Linocut, an Amazon number one best-selling printmaking book providing a comprehensive introduction to relief printing. Her second book on Linocut – A Beginner’s Guide to Linocut – will be published in November 2018 with Search Press. Susan lives and works in Woking in Surrey and continues to teach printmaking to anyone wanting to learn.
