The application of stencils on a silkscreen can be used to create bold blocks of colour or images with finer detail, depending on how good your craft knife cutting skills are, and layers can be built up using the positive and negative stencils to create complex screenprints without the use of photographic chemicals in a darkroom.

The possibilities are endless and this technique can be used to print on the kitchen table at home, using an easily constructed ‘jig’ to hold the screen – if you ask, we will provide you with instructions on how to make one!
