An Introduction to Less Toxic Etching with Mai Osawa – Weekend 31 January / 1 February 2026 – 10am to 4pm

This relaxed and informative etching course with tutor Mai Osawa is suitable for beginners and anyone who wishes to learn the non-toxic processes we employ in our etching room.
You will be etching copper plates with ferric chloride and BIG (Baldwins Ink Ground) and using our self-contained spray booth for applying a specially formulated aquatint solution.
The weekend will start with you creating a hard ground needle line, then you will move onto the etching room to explore the biting process using aquatint to add tones to your copper plate. You will also learn the process of ‘stage-bite’ using various stop-out materials.
Once your plate is ready to print, Mai will take you though different inking up processes such as à la poupée.
All basic materials are provided within the course price, with additional plates/paper available for you to purchase in the studio.
Dates: Weekend 31 January and 1 February
Times: 10am to 4pm
Cost: £220 / Members £210
