On this one day workshop Angela will show you three different types of bookbinding techniques. You will produce a booklet using a simple pamphlet stitch, a long stitched method where the stitching is seen on the outside of the spine and a stitched multi sectioned book using decorative ribbons as a feature and for fastening. All methods are non adhesive, which allows for incorporating many different paper types including your own prints, graph paper, tracing paper, decorative papers and envelopes. All the books will have a soft cover using colourful hand- made Indian paper. No specialist equipment is needed, all the tools required for the day will be supplied.
Angela uses this method in her own work producing unique artist’s books from her lino cuts and collagraph prints adding text by writers such as Charles Darwin, Nan Shepherd and Monty Don.
“When I find a piece of text I like, it stays in my mind to mull over, and then, hopefully I will eventually produce a book.”
Angela will bring along examples of her own extensive range of handmade books of which some are held in public and private collections including Bath Spa and Oxford Brookes Universities, Tate Britain, Milan and North America.
If you have any special paper or prints please bring them with you and Angela can discuss with you how to incorporate them into your own unique books.
