During Lockdown I have been working away, trying to develop my relief printing skills.
After an initial struggle with plywood I have discovered the excellent properties of natural lino. I prefer the feel of this to the grey, modern kind. It produces softer, more interesting lines.
I have been experimenting with paper and I love the Japanese toned papers which are available from printmaking suppliers.
I have also been experimenting with water soluble markers and wax crayons. I found that a refillable Monami brush/calligraphy pen I have seems to be activated by water or ink rolled on top of it and show through in the final print creating all sorts of interesting colour shifts along the way.
I am yet to find another ink that has these properties but if anyone knows of any I would be excited to hear about it!
I am very much looking forward to returning to the studio and seeing everyone again. Hopefully in the near future.
